As we embark on the final quarter of 2018, Shift Transit is excited to announce the start of another journey. On October 5th, ArborBike publicly released its bike share program re-launch in partnership with Shift Transit as their new operators.
At Shift Transit, we are a fast growing full-scale shared mobility operator and Ann Arbor will be the fifth city the team is working with on a bike share program. While taking over Toronto’s operations in April 2017, this was the budding movement that paved the way to welcoming Detroit, Chattanooga and Tucson to the Shift Transit family by the end of 2017.
“We couldn’t be happier to partner with the Ann Arbor Transportation Authority to rejuvenate the ArborBike program. With over 100 employees, the Shift Transit team is focused on relaunching and growing the program while delivering an excellent customer experience in Ann Abor.”
Shift Transit is a growing, fiercely passionate team that prides themselves on developing strategies that will help partners deliver modern shared mobility options to residents, students, and visitors alike while ensuring very satisfied customers. As operators in neighboring Detroit, Shift Transit has a strong leadership and an established team that will allow the re-launch to jump start, getting ArborBike back onto the streets for residents, students and visitors to enjoy.

ANN ARBOR, MI – The Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority (TheRide), the Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority, the City of Ann Arbor, and the University of Michigan jointly announce that ArborBike, Ann Arbor’s bike sharing program, will return with Shift Transit as the new operator.
“Bike sharing is a key piece of the community transportation system.” said Steve Dolen, Executive Director of Logistics, Transportation & Parking for the University of Michigan. “Relaunching ArborBike with Shift Transit provides a great mobility option for the campus community that helps reduce parking demand, vehicle emissions, dependency on single occupancy vehicles, plus supports the university’s MHealthy initiative.”
“We believe, as a partnership of community institutions, that ArborBike is a crucial link in the overall transportation network between the University campus, downtown, and neighborhoods near downtown,” said Chris Simmons, Business Services Program Manager for TheRide. “We are looking forward to leveraging the expertise of Shift Transit to take ArborBike to the next level of productivity.”
Shift Transit is a full-scale operator of bike share systems, currently operating in Detroit, Toronto, Tucson, and Chattanooga. Shift Transit operates 475 stations and 4,850 bicycles across North America where members took over 1.6 million trips in 2017 and are quickly approaching 2 million trips in 2018.
